Northwood ARGONAUT SHELL Opalescent Vaseline Glass Banana Boat

Northwood ARGONAUT SHELL Opalescent Vaseline Glass Banana Boat
The "Argonaut Shell" aka "Nautilus" pattern was made by both Northwood Glass and Dugan Glass, according to Mike Carwile in the Standard Encyclopedia of Opalescent Glass, which describes this vaseline glass novelty tray with its pedestal base and turned up sides as a "whimsy banana boat."

We're not sure how plentiful bananas were in the US in the early 20th century, so it may have served as a tray for calling cards or letters.

Dimensions: The tray measures 8 1/4" long x 5" wide x 3 3/8" high.

Marks/Dates: Early 1900's. Unmarked.

Condition: No cracks, chips or other damage. There is some roughness on the underside of the bottom rim that you can feel when you run your finger around it.
